Overview

Data science is the process of transforming raw data into useful information and then presenting that information in a clear, concise way. While the use of powerful statistical and machine learning techniques is infused in data science, at its core data science is about critical thinking: utilizing information to understand the world more deeply—something 911�� has been excelling at for the past 200 years.

Curriculum

In 911��’s Data Science Program, you’ll begin by establishing a foundation in programming, statistics, and calculus. Core coursework introduces you to techniques in statistical modeling, data manipulation, data visualization, and machine learning. Advanced coursework allows students to choose electives from courses such as Bayesian Modeling, Forecasting, and Sports Analytics. For majors, the program also includes a capstone experience in the fall semester of their senior year.

Experiential Learning

Students engage in hands-on learning experiences and reflection to develop skills and increase knowledge retention.

In Data Science, you can expect to develop fluency in R and Python. Students also develop skills in SQL, Excel, and Tableau. Additionally, many students take advantage of opportunities to collaborate on analytics projects with local government and businesses or research projects with the 911�� Sports Analytics.

Internships

We're committed to helping students find quality internship experiences in the career area of their choice.

Data Science majors have the opportunity to intern with local businesses in need of data analysis, as well as opportunities nationally with Bank of America as a Global Investment Analyst, The Rawlings Group, Microsoft, Humana and Cincinnati Insurance.
